Lorna Taylor
Lorna Taylor was born and educated in London: Lorna studied cello and piano at the Royal Academy of Music, gaining her GRSM and LRAM (piano), followed by a post-graduate teacher training year at Bretton Hall in Yorkshire. Living for a while in Colchester, Essex, where she worked as a primary school teacher specializing in music, and then as a peripatetic cello teacher, she was principal cello with the Colchester Chamber Orchestra. After gaining her ARCM (cello) she embarked on further study with Keith Harvey of the Gabrieli Quartet. She currently teaches cello privately in Reading, Berkshire, and formerly for the Berkshire Young Musicians’ Trust, specializing in beginners and the early stages with both children and adults. Finding a lack of suitable teaching material for her own pupils, Lorna was inspired to write 3 cello tutor books which are available through Clifton Edition. For many years she was principal cellist with West Forest Sinfonia and as a local freelance played for various choral and operatic societies. She also played as a member of the Danesfield Quartet writing arrangements for their use. Married, with two grown up musical daughters and two granddaughters, Lorna lives in Reading.
