Geoffrey Keating (1937-2026) received an MA from Oxford University before becoming Director of Music at Millfield School, where he stayed for 17 years. He also taught at Sherborne School for three years before retiring to Scotland. In 2018, Geoff received the British Empire Medal for services to music and charity. He had taught, played, and written music in different parts of Britain all his life. When he came to live in Gatehouse of Fleet, he threw himself into the musical life of the region, founding the Solway Sinfonia and remaining its chief conductor for twenty-one years.
