Gustav Damm (1881-1949) was a Swiss composer and pianist. Known mostly now for his “Method for the Pianoforte”.
Born in Blankenburg, he completed his studies at the Conservatory in Leipzig from 1899 to 1900. He had previously received lessons from various teachers and his father in violin, piano and cornet. In Leipzig he studied violin with Arno Hilf and also with Hans Sitt and Karl Wendling.
After completing his studies, he worked first as a military musician and later as a bandmaster. From 1907 to 1914 he had engagements in Switzerland before moving entirely to Switzerland in 1923. There he conducted a series of wind orchestras (Musikgesellschaft Langendorf in 1923, Musikverein Romanshorn, Musikverein “Harmonie” Wetzikon from 1930, Musikverein “Harmonie” Bauma, Harmoniemusikmusikmusik Fischenthal, Musikgesellschaft Harmoniegesellschaft Fischenthal, Musikgesellschaft Harmonie Wettingen-Kloster 1936 to 1941).
