Four movements inspired by family walks in the beautiful Peak District. Each movement may be performed individually, or the four can be combined to form a varied and rewarding programme. Each represents a scene of wonder and challenges the clarinettist’s articulation, breath control and ability to sustain a flowing phrase, supported by an interesting and sympathetic piano accompaniment.
Contents
- Water Vole Spotting — Grade 5-6. Comparatively lyrical and approachable, though expressive playing and clean semiquaver figures are required
- Curious Cats — Grade 5-6. Flowing semiquaver passages, range extending to high G, considerable breath and phrase control
- Dragonfly — Grade 5–6. Light articulation, trills and agility; the Prestissimo marking could push this towards Grade 6
- Murmurations — Grade 6–7. The hardest piece: sustained semiquaver writing, tuplets, changing articulation, wide dynamics and a range extending to high A-flat
