Schubert completed his Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major in 1816, when he was just nineteen years old. Scored for a relatively small orchestra, the work reflects his admiration for Mozart while speaking unmistakably in Schubert’s own lyrical voice. Its elegance, freshness and abundance of memorable melodies have made it one of his most cherished symphonies.
