Symphony No. 1 Simplified and Abridged
These arrangements preserve the character and essential spirit of each great work, while presenting the music in a form that is comparatively brief and approachable at the piano. All movements are represented, although each has necessarily been abridged and carefully adapted to provide an enjoyable and rewarding introduction to each celebrated masterpiece.
Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D major was composed principally between 1887 and 1888 and first performed in Budapest in 1889. Sometimes known as the Titan, it takes the listener on a remarkable journey from the awakening sounds of nature to a jubilant and triumphant conclusion. Along the way, Mahler incorporates rustic dances, birdsong, distant fanfares and a wonderfully imaginative minor-key transformation of the familiar tune Frère Jacques.
