The seven miniatures in this volume have been carefully selected and sympathetically simplified to provide an accessible introduction to Mendelssohn’s piano music. As with all titles in the Simplest Series, editorial additions are kept to a minimum, preserving the spirit and character of the originals while making them approachable for developing pianists.
The well-known Song Without Words, Op. 19 No. 2, has been re-notated from its original 3/8 metre into a clear and spacious 3/4, improving readability without altering the musical flow. Similarly, Op. 38 No. 2 has been re-notated from a crowded 2/4 to a much less intimidating 4/4.
