The Sonata for Flute and Piano is in three movements.

The first is in sonata form with clear developments and contrasts between material. The second movement is more tongue in cheek and has a French flavour with its one-in-a-bar
waltz feel. The third and final movement is slower and more reflective.

The first performance of this work was given on 3rd December 1997 by Hannah Merritt and David Last, in a composer’s concert at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff.
