A work with lyrical melodies and a lively middle section, composed by Apollon Marie-Rose Barret: 1804-1879 and edited by Professor Myron Zakopets.
Barret was born in Northern France in 1804 and died in Paris in 1879, after spending most of his working years in London. He was Solo Oboe at the Italian Opera (Covent Garden) and Professor at the Royal Academy of Music. He was involved in the development of the modern oboe in France and wrote A Complete Method for the Oboe, in which the melody of Cantilena appears as a short piece for oboe with bassoon accompaniment.
