Divertimento dates from May 1956 and started life as a fun piece for the reed trio so popular with the French:
Oboe, Clarinet in Bb and Bassoon.
Later, Mary Chandler re-scored the piece for Flute, Oboe and Piano, to suit the group with which she was then working. It has been played in both forms — the Piano Trio version was broadcast by the Aulos Trio in the late 1950s. This original reed trio version was first published by Phylloscopus Publications in 1992.
The editor of this series of works by Mary Chandler is Dr. Kristin Leitterman, who has kindly supplied sample facsimiles from Mary Chandler’s manuscript.
