Symphonie Fantastique tells the story of an artist’s self-destructive passion for a beautiful woman. The symphony describes his obsession and dreams, tantrums and moments of tenderness, and visions of suicide and murder, ecstasy and despair. This arrangement retains the essence of the great work, yet is easy to play and substantially abridged. All five movements are represented.

- Reveries. Passions — The beloved becomes to him a melody, a recurrent theme (the idée fixe). His delirious suffering, his return to tenderness, his religious consolations.
- A Ball — At a ball, in the midst of a noisy, brilliant fête, he finds his beloved again.
- Scenes in the Country — On a summer evening in the country, he hears two herders calling each other with their shepherd melodies. What if she proved faithless? The sun sets. Only one of the shepherds resumes his rustic tune. Solitude. Silence.
- March to the Scaffold — He dreams he has killed his loved one, that he is condemned to death and led to his own execution.
- Dream of a Witches' Sabbath — Following the fall of the axe, a fearful crowd of spectres, sorcerers and monsters of every kind are united for his burial. Unearthly sounds, groans, shrieks of laughter, distant cries. The melody of his beloved is heard, but it has lost its character of nobility and reserve. Instead, it is now an ignoble dance tune, trivial and grotesque. His funeral bell, and the Dies Irae.
