The Duo for oboe (or clarinet in Bb) and bassoon was written for the composer’s birthday celebration concert in the Holywell Music Room at Oxford. Bryan Kelly was a founding member of the Zodiac Ensemble, which gave recitals in and around Oxford for a number of years. There are four movements, the first being a Fanfare which is to be played again at the end of the Duo. Then come Invention, Nocturne and Burlesque, together offering a challenging suite with both parts sharing equally the intricate rhythms and melodic lines.
