The remarkable stories of the Ancient Greek Gods have undoubtedly ‘stood the test of time’. My enthusiasm was forged at primary school, where Jason and the Argonauts was read to us every Friday afternoon by the headmaster.

While each piece in this short collection is distinct in character in their portrayal of a specific Ancient Greek character, they all share a mutual interest in contrasting “time and rhythm”. The musical style, while often employing unashamedly ‘diatonic’ and tuneful language, also makes use of exciting contemporary techniques like poly-tonality, cross-rhythms, adventurous jazz-like harmony and dramatic pedal effects.

The first performance was given by Ariana Pethard in the Royal Albert Hall: Elgar Room, as part of the Elena Cobb Star Prize Festival, April 6th 2022.
