Meditation for horn and piano is a short piece in reflective mood. It opens with a soothing, rocking motif in the accompaniment over which the horn trickles its melody. The middle section is more intense, with rich chords from the piano, encouraging a more sonorous response from the horn, whose melody replaces running quavers with dotted rhythms. The dynamic subsides and the opening mood is restored at bar 25 before a cadenza-like ending.
