Angelo Notari was a singer, lutenist and composer, who was born in Padua in 1566 and died in London in August 1664 at the phenomenal age of 97 or 98, having served James I and his eldest son Prince Henry,
Charles I and Charles II in turn.

In 1613 he published his only printed work, the Prime Musiche Nuove which was the only early baroque Italian songbook to appear in England. It is a compendium of fashionable baroque devices and includes virtuoso monodies, duets and trios with figured bass.
