Henri Brod

Henri Brod was born in Paris in 1799 (according to Fetis) and
died in 1839. At the age of 12, he became a pupil at the Paris
Conservatoire where he was taught by the Professor of Oboe,
Auguste-Gustave Vogt, who was only the second holder of the
post. Henri Brod soon joined his teacher in the oboe section of
the Opera Orchestra and at the Conservatoire concerts. Opinions
vary as to the merits of his playing. He soon turned his attention
to the development of the cor anglais and the keywork of the
oboe, becoming a maker alongside others like Tri6bert. He wrote
a “Me’thode pour le Hautbois” in two volumes in which he
recommends a TriCbert oboe as the best available (in vol. 1) and
later claims to be the inventor of the half-hole plate for the left
fore-finger (in vo1.2) .
